Marine data for the industry and the private sector towards sustainable development
After the success of the 2015 edition, the Italian members of the EMODnet family are proud to invite you to the second Italian EMODnet Day, named “Marine data for the industry and the private sector towards sustainable development”. Since 2009, EMODnet has been an initiative funded by the EU Commission (DG MARE) that collects and makes available marine data at EU level through a network of over 150 organisations.
The conference will be an occasion for cross-fertilisation between EMODnet members and users, and will see the participation of representatives from ministries, regional government bodies, public research institutes, as well as private companies. Use cases of EMODnet data will open a discussion on how marine open data can foster the development of several sectors in the Italy’s blue economy, such as tourism, environment, aquaculture, etc.
Welcome speeches from OGS’s President, the Principle of the University of Trieste, as well as representatives from regional and local authorities will then leave the floor to Iain Shepherd (EU Commission – DG MARE), who will outline the EU’s vision of the sector. In the morning session, EMODnet partners will give an update on the progress of the 8 portals, as well as on the EMODnet Data Ingestion project, which aims to facilitate ingestion of marine data from external sources into the EMODnet network. The afternoon will see an interactive session to exchange views and experiences, with roundtables on “Environment and tourism”, “Impacts and marine litter”, “Synergies between data from public and business sources to support the blue economy”.
The event will take place in Trieste (venue to be communicated at a later stage) on 8 June 2018, on the World Oceans Day, and is organised by OGS, the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics, together with the National Research Council (CNR), the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC), Cogea, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), ETT, the Hydrographic Institute of the Italian Navy, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) and TRUST-IT.
More details on the event and the final programme will be available soon on this page.
